HDF Victoria, age 17 months
Victoria is a heavy coated sow bred by Matthew and Virginia Hunker at Hunker Down Farm in Graham, NC. She is owned by Karl Beusching at Thistle Draw Farm in Liberty, NC. Her cone-shaped udders are similar to those of her grandmother, Sumrall MS Swanee Rose. She is the offspring of half-siblings, so influenced by Gershwin, who is from Baylis and Biggers lines. She may carry a gene for curly coats.
Karl reports that, at 17 months, she is 44 inches from skull to tail. He states, “She has a well balanced frame with straight legs, level back, and a smooth, even gait. She’s an easy keeper and a great forager… checking all her favorite places before munching on the pasture grasses. She gave birth to 7 piglets in her first litter. 5 were female and 2 male. She’s been an excellent mother to her litter, who have thrived with no assistance other than fresh bedding. She has allowed easy access to her litter from day 1.”
