It is mid-November! For some of us, we are having the peak of autumn colors and the constant falling of leaves. For others, the leaves are bare, temperatures below freezing, and snow is challenging both farmers and livestock. For my friends “down under,” it is the beginning of springtime.
In America, it is the time that we gather our harvests, store food for the winter, slow down or stop our planting and harvesting, and give thanks for our many blessings. I have so much to be grateful for, and a gratitude-filled heart as I think of my family, home, community, and friends. I am grateful to all who open and read my newsletters. Thank you!

Yesterday I discovered that I am a finalist in the American Book Fest’s “Best Book Awards” for 2019. You can find a press release here. I’m so grateful that the story of the southern Guinea Hog is being embraced and appreciated. The more attention it receives, the more people will understand the breed and its place in our history.
In this competition, about one out of four entrants will “place” in their chosen category. Mine was Animals/Pets: Narrative Non-fiction. There are no second or third place winners, only finalists. It’s an honor to be included on a list that, this year, included Pope Francis, and in previous contests, included Amy Tan and Anne Lamott.
I’d like to extend a special offer to you. This is for my website store only, and books will be shipped directly from my home. Therefore, it WILL include the options of personalized autographing, and books will have the award stickers affixed to the front. Use coupon code Nov19 to get 20% off your entire order AND free shipping! The store is found here.
I have more nice titles with good pricing at my aerio store. This is a distributor who will ship from the warehouse, so autographs and stickers are not an option. However, I earn a small percentage on books purchased at this site.
If you’d like to order books in larger quantities such as 5, 10, or 20 as gifts or resale at your farm store, just send me an email and we’ll work something out. Many of my customers are gifting these or offering them at wholesale price to families that purchase their breeding stock or pork. I can have them drop-shipped directly from the printer to your door! Please allow a week or two for printing and delivery.
I have two more exciting events in November. This weekend, I’ll be participating in Heritage Days at our local State Botanical Garden at UGA. Jeannette Beranger will be speaking and displaying her fancy heritage poultry, and I’ll be helping her promote The Livestock Conservancy and heritage breeds. I’m looking forward to catching up with her and hear about her adventures across the country and around the world.
The second exciting event is a road trip with my husband Jon to Miami via Kissimee and home via Savannah. In Miami, we’ll visit the Miami Book Fair 2019. It is the largest book fair in the country, and my award-winning book will be on display at the Readers Favorite booth. One night we’ll have an author’s meet-and-greet by the pool, and the next nigth we’ll be all dressed up for the awards ceremony, where I’ll be presented with the silver medal, a framed certificate, and have professional photos on stage. I’ll be sure to have Jon take a few photos, too!
Many blessings to you, and have a wonderful Thanksgiving. I appreciate you!
